Liz and Marty!!

Ok, so I spent the last three years doing wedding photography with a great photographer named Janine McClintock. I loved it, well most of it, and I loved working for Janine. However, Ben and I have made some changes in our lives in the last six months and we feel called to non-profit work overseas. We're not totally sure how that will play out in reality, but its our dream and we pray we get there sooner than later. The break from weddings has been good and I'm really not missing it all that much...until now. That brings me to Liz and Marty. Liz is my very dear friend, one of those friends that thinks I'm hilarious, even though I'm not, so we are always laughing. Literally, we are always laughing, people may even find us annoying. Well my dear Liz is getting married, and even though I'm on a hiatus from weddings, it was my (and my camera-wielding-husband's) pleasure to gift her these images......

My best day of 2008 so far....

On Saturday, February 9th, Ben and I participated in the Nebraska Democratic Caucuses. This experience had a profound effect on me. Young and old, black, white and brown, all gathered to express their desire to make this country better. Some have asked, why the caucus system? Why not just hold a regular primary? This is why; the chance to interact with the people that your choices affect. Who we vote for, how we choose to get involved where we live effects our neighbors. We live in an individualistic society where front porches have been replaced with double garages that jut out in front of our homes like a brick wall. To be forced out from behind that wall and realizing that its safe to smile and shake hands is a liberating experience. This one night, this one caucus has changed not only my political affiliation, but my outlook on the humanity in Lincoln, Nebraska. I wish I could wrap this view of humanity up and give to everyone I know. I can't do that, but I can share with you images from that night. I hope these give you a vision of the lives that were intertwined by the democratic process.
